Is Microsoft moving Power Platform from low-code to pro-code?

Interesting shift.

Microsoft releasing Claude Code plugins for Power Pages and Copilot Studio says a lot about where the ecosystem might be heading.

My view is that low-code and pro-code won’t replace each other.. they’ll converge.

Power Platform still exists because it enables citizen developers and business teams to build solutions quickly. That core value isn’t going away.

At the same time, Microsoft is clearly acknowledging something:
Developers want more control, flexibility, and integration with real engineering workflows.

So what we’re seeing is a hybrid model emerging.
• Low-code studios remain the entry point for configuration and rapid development
• Pro-code tools (IDE + AI) enable deeper customization, automation, and architecture-level work
• The platform itself becomes the governed foundation: security, data model, ALM, and Microsoft ecosystem

In practice, the use cases will likely split like this (at least for now):
Low-code
→ internal apps, operational tools, citizen dev solutions

Pro-code + AI
→ complex systems, integrations, prototypes, and scalable production applications

But the biggest shift isn't the tools.
It's the skills that matter.

Knowing where to click in the studio will matter less.
Understanding architecture, data modeling, security, governance, and platform design will matter far more.

The build is getting easier.
The design decisions are not.
